Did I get acrylics or gels?

Hello. I just got back from the nail salon. I asked them specifically for gel nails, NOT ACRYLICS, and I'm not sure that's what they gave me. Basically they filed my nail with a little tool, glued on a tip, and then painted over it with this mixture of a "catalyst" and a powder. I thought that with gels they put your hands under a UV light, but they never did that with me. All they did was paint over the false tip with a thick mixture that hardened when I put my hands in front of a fan. Did they give me acrylics instead of gels? Thank you.
