Kalam's Cosmological Argument: Isn't the need for causality circumvented by initial conditions?

The really interesting thing about this argument is that Christians realise that God had no need to create a physical universe at all. He chose to do it. There was no need. He was not required to do it, nor was he required to ensure that a series of chemical reactions resulted in life, or in sentient beings who populated one particular planet called Earth. Nor did He need to reveal anything of Himself to those humans. But He chose to do so.
